The 2022 Gravette de Certan does not quite have the bandwidth and nuance of its peers, missing a bit of lift on the nose. Perhaps in a dumb phase? The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Gentle but insistent grip and, oddly, you could be duped into thinking there was some Cabernet towards the finish, when it is 100% Merlot. Fine. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

Tasted blind. Attractively savoury nose. Mellifluous palate. Comes to a rather sudden end but there is energy – and freshness – here. (JR)

Representing one-third of the estate's production, produced entirely from younger-vine Merlot, the 2022 La Gravette de Certan offers up rich aromas of blueberries, licorice, cigar ash and toasty oak. Full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's supple and voluptuous, with a sweet core of fruit and a giving, polished profile.
