Score 87/100 · Drink 2001-2012, Robert Parker, Apr 2001

Dark ruby/garnet-colored, with an elegant berry nose displaying scents of cedar, earth, and spice, this medium-bodied, nicely-delineated 1998 is long, rich, and graceful. In an age of bold, flamboyant offerings, particularly from St.-Emilion, this wine's measured restraint and attractive ripeness as well as richness are to be applauded. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

Ruby-red. Sexy floral aromas of black cherry, baking chocolate, licorice and spicy oak. Nicely concentrated and firm, with ripe acids giving the flavors good definition. Finishes with solid tannins and sneaky length. The '99 showed good texture but was marred by a pronounced greenness.
