This estate tends to produce light, fruity, but often superficial Pomerols. The 2011 has plenty of up-front appeal, but slightly more depth than expected. The color is a healthy dark saturated ruby, and the wine displays plenty of caramel, black cherry, spice box and earth notes. Drink it over the next decade.

A successful effort in this vintage, the charming, fruit-driven 2011 La Grave a Pomerol offers sweet black cherry fruit intermixed with herbs, earth and spice box. Evolved and medium-bodied with excellent ripeness, purity and texture, it should drink well for 8-10 years.
Vineyard encépagement: 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc. Mid to deep crimson, less dark than the St-Émilions in the Moueix stable. Cherry fruit, not quite linctus but heading that way. Then dry and powder-fine tannins on the cedary palate. Restraint throughout but a lingering finish. (JH)
