Tasted blind at the annual “Burgfest” tasting in Bouilland. The 2013 Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes has a licorice-scented bouquet that is much more exotic than its peers. That said, it maintains respectable delineation even if it does lack a little sophistication. The palate is fresh and minty on the entry, a little richer than its peers with impressive weight and concentration, though it is missing some clarity and precision on the finish. This is a Meursault Charmes that wants to impress and it will with another 2-3 years in bottle, once it finds more "decorum." Tasted May 2016.

(one of the four barrels is new): Good pale color. Musky aromas of lemon, lime, clove, iodine and hazelnut oil are less open than those of the Genevrières in the early going. Also tighter in the mouth, showing a ripe suggestion of honey but excellent cut thanks to firm lemony acidity. Finishes with excellent length.
