You have to love the colorful Sandro Chia artwork on this label, which depicts a man rolling a stone boulder up a steep hill. I guess that's winemaking in a nutshell, figuratively speaking. Luckily, the Castello Romitorio 2019 Rosso di Montalcino did not encounter adverse conditions in terms of vintage or farming. A classic and balanced growing season brings on fresh tones of cherry, plum and potting soil. The wine also reveals candied orange peel and dried lavender flower. This Rosso nails that pretty Sangiovese freshness.

This is really beautifully crafted with berry, chocolate and walnut character. Itâs medium-to full-bodied with layers of fruit and tannins, yet it shows tension and focus. So much energy and character at the finish. Really excellent. Drink or hold.
The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is incredibly pretty and perfumed with a display of violets and roses that gives way to wild strawberries and woodland herbs. This is silky and textural yet full of lively energy, with a savory display of mineral-tinged cherries and exotic spices. There’s a residual coating of primary fruit concentration mixed with grippy tannins that not only frames the experience perfectly but also promises a number of years of further development in bottle. Give the 2019 another year to fully come together, and then watch it shine over medium-term cellaring.
