The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes comes from three parcels of 60- to 70-year-old vines and sees 40% whole bunch. This is quite high-toned on the nose with blackberry and cassis fruit - these aromatics need to be tamed. The palate has chewy tannins, a little rustic with a finish that needs more nuance. Not bad, but a bit rough around the edges.

The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Vieilles Vignes represents another fine rendition of this remarkably consistent cuvée. Unfurling in the glass with notes of cherries, red berries, warm spices and sweet soil tones, it's medium to full-bodied, lively and concentrated, with powdery tannins and a long, sapid finish. Given its structure and substance, it will amply reward at least a few years' patience.
