Saturated ruby; extremely dark for the vintage. Aromas of wild, crushed black fruits, licorice, violet and smoked meat. Lush, sweet and silky but powerful, with a very pure, tight, youthfully monolithic core of black fruit flavors. Bright acids give this wine a juicy character on the back and really extend the finish. The tannins are strong but arrive late. This is from 70-year-old vines, while the cuvee Ultra parcel was planted in 1902.
