Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2024-2042, Neal Martin, Jan 2023

The 2021 Beaune Les Theurons 1er Cru is fragrant on the nose with perfumed crushed strawberry and redcurrant scents. The oak is neatly integrated and becomes more floral with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant tartness on the entry. Showing fine weight here, it's cohesive with a satisfying edginess keeping it on its toes through the finish. This is a fine Beaune.

Notes of sweet raspberries, cherries and rose petals introduce the 2021 Beaune 1er Cru Les Theurons (Domaine Gagey), a medium-bodied, ample and fleshy wine that's delicate and fine-boned this year.

Cask sample. Pale garnet. Slightly smudgy nose. Still quite chewy with fine tannins and marked but not excessive acidity. Needs time but should be a vigorous pleasurable drink eventually. (JR)
