The ruby/plum-hued 2021 Château Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac offers up a spicy, complex, more red-fruited profile that has medium-bodied aromas and flavors of savory herbs, camphor, and loamy earth. It's nicely balanced, has moderate depth and concentration, and a good finish. It's well-made and a satisfying 2021 to drink over the coming decade.

The 2021 Grand Barrail Lamarzelle Figeac has a pleasant bouquet with raspberry and blackberry fruit, wild hedgerow and just a touch of pencil box. The palate is smooth on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, tart red fruit and a touch of orange rind, finishing more Left Bank in style thanks to the Cabernet Franc—quite peppery on the aftertaste. Drink it over the next six to eight years.

The 2021 Grand Barrail La Marzelle Figeac is a fine effort for a property that has been up and down in recent years. Dark cherry, red plum, cinnamon and blood orange all take shape with some time in the glass. There are some slightly rough edges, but this is a step forward nonetheless. The balance is quite good for a wine with a relatively high percentage of Cabernet Franc.
