Score 17.5/20 · Drink 2016-2032, Jancis Robinson MW, Dec 2016

100% Merlot. Picking started 5 October. Deep dark crimson. Starting to show some real complexity. Very rich and sweet but with attractive grittiness and freshness on the end. Slightly inky. But more refreshing and finer than the 2009 and 1999. More sophisticated. (JR)

All Merlot. Gamey and sweet. Mild and chocolatey. Lots of sweet delivery, even if very young. And alcoholic. A tad awkward at the moment. (JR)

100% Merlot. Bright red. Exciting and dry finish. Tastes a bit like Etna lava! Very rich yet taut. Fun! (JR)

The 2010 Palazzi is mostly Merlot with a dollop of other grapes, mainly Cabernet Franc. It is also the richest of the 2010s. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame a deep core of dark red fruit. This is an especially powerful wine for 2010, a vintage that gave Franchetti very little to work with. The 2010 spent just five months in oak.
