Score 90-92/100 · Drink 2017-2030, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2015

The 2014 Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière, from 70-year-old vines next to Santenay's premier cru of Clos de Rousseau, has a very delineated nose with raspberry and briary scents, nicely controlled and unfolding in the glass. The palate is well balanced with tart cherry fruit mixed with redcurrant and quite a noticeable black pepper aspect. The structure is very impressive here, with wonderful symmetry towards the finish that lingers. Who said Maranges cannot make top class wine?
