Full bottle an unnecessarily heavy 1,566 g. Good old-fashioned Meursault – not excessively 'buttery' but reasonably rich as well as savoury, and definitely not austere. Should be just the job with tonight's turbot. Less 'heavy' than some earlier vintages from this address. Impressive length. (JR)

The 2018 Meursault Charmes-Dessus 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet. Understated at first, it opens with crushed rock, white flowers and touches of citrus fruit. It appears to build in intensity. The palate is quite oaky on the entry, although that should be subsumed with time. Good substance, slightly reductive, yet judiciously spiced with ample depth on the satisfying finish. Great potential. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 white tasting.

Cask sample. Really very rich. I’d want quite a bit more acidity. I’d have difficulty putting in Burgundy blind, I fear. (JR)
