More harmonious than the Lorenzon Mont Laurent 2018. There's oak spice but there's also a core of citrus fruit. Taut, fresh, sinewy and long. (JH)

Bottled. A bit mealy and unfocused initially but with excellent tension, reduction and – possibly – a little dissolved carbon dioxide to give it energy? Few would be disappointed by this, though it’s slightly smoke and mirrors. (JR)

The 2018 Montagny 1er Cru is quite austere on the nose despite encouragement. Perhaps a little anonymous compared to Boillot's other cuvées? The palate is better and certainly more expressive, quite tangy with hints of orange rind and apricot. There is almost a viscous texture towards the finish, an imprimatur of the growing season. Not bad, but more for short-term consumption.
