The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus 1er Cru is showing some oak on the nose, although there is sufficient fruit to support that. This seems to gain purity and delineation in the glass. The well-balanced palate is fleshy, ripe, and quite sweet and tart, with red cherries, blood orange and a citrus element on the silky-smooth finish. This might not be long-term, but it is very well crafted, sensual and alluring. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

The 2017 Vosne-Romanée Les Rouges du Dessus, which is limited to two barrels this year (one new), has a very perfumed, floral bouquet, wilted violet and iris petals infusing the bright red fruit. The palate is sappy on the entry with vibrant red fruit, cranberry, strawberry and touch of red currant, all interlaced with orange peel, dovetailing into a lightly spiced, quite persistent finish. This has great potential.
