Score 90/100 · Drink 2022-2032, Mark Squires, Jul 2022

The 2021 Loureiro is the winery's classic version—meaning "unoaked." It comes in at 11.6% alcohol, less than 1.5 grams of sugar and 7.3 of total acidity. This was only in bottle about two weeks, but I was assured it was showing well. Well, it's a little disjointed, but you can see all the stuffing there to make a classic Ameal, including the big acidity, silky texture and subtle concentration. This is something that should age well, as always, but it will get better. Hopefully, it settles into the right place. For all of its bottling issues, it is in a better place now than the bigger 2019 Reserva. As time goes on, they may separate more, in favor of the 2019; but for the moment, this is as strong competitor. There were 43,800 bottles produced.
