Score 88/100 · Drink 2018-2024, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Mar 2017

(bottled in March): Medium red. Ripe, fruit-driven aromas of strawberry and raspberry. Supple and easygoing, conveying a fine-grained texture but little in the way of easy sweetness. The classically dry finish shows pronounced salty minerality.

(20% vendange entier ; 20% new oak): Healthy medium red. Roasted red fruits on the nose. Nicely ripe and concentrated, with dark berry and spice flavors complemented by a coffee nuance. Finishes spicy, bright and persistent, with saline black fruit notes and elegant silky tannins. These vines are situated at an altitude of about 280 meters.

The 2014 Savigny les Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières comes from south-facing vines and had in fact, already been bottled when I visited the domaine in November. It has a defined, slightly tertiary, loose-knit bouquet that coalesces in the glass, a touch of autumn leaf infusing the brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, tightly knit at the moment but with a keen thread of acidity and plenty of salinity coming through on the finish. Drink over the next 3-4 years.
