Score 90/100 · Drink 2021-2030, Neal Martin, Nov 2018

The 2015 Beaune Clos des Marconnets 1er Cru has a delightful bouquet of red cherry, crushed strawberry and rose petal aromas that blossoms beautifully in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin and crisp acidity, and just a little angular, leading to a bright, quite sophisticated finish that lingers in the mouth. It is carried somewhat by the new oak but that will be subsumed with time, hence my positive score. Certainly this is one of the better 2015s from Chanson. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Mid purplish crimson. Red fruited and a light savoury/meaty ripeness. Dry but already quite supple tannins. Embryonic but promises well. (JH)
