The 2016 Côtes de Nuits Villages has a very appealing bouquet, a mixture of red and black fruit that are nicely defined. There is just a hint of liquorice that combines neatly. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe, sweet cassis and blueberry fruit. A fine bead of acidity with an almost pastille-like purity on the finish. I suspect this will be irresistible in its youth, whilst some of the Marsannay cuvées will have greater longevity. Tasted at the Domaine.

The 2016 Côte de Nuits-Villages reveals aromas of cherries, espresso roast, licorice and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied palate with fine, stony tannins and tangy acids that's a little closed at present. There's impressive underlying substance so forget this in the cellar for a few years.

(Roty made a normal crop here): Moderately saturated medium red. Aromas of strawberry, iron and rock. Then surprisingly supple and sweet, offering ripe, savory flavors of red berries, tobacco and spices. This wine strikes me as riper and gentler than in past years. Roty says it's carrying 13% alcohol, with no chaptalization.
