The 2018 Beaune Clos des Fèves 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit on the pretty, well-defined nose, which shows more Pinoté than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and fine acidity. Quite harmonious, with a lush but controlled finish. Not quite as good as the Clos des Mouches, but not far off.

Cask sample. Some energy in a black-cherry idiom. Rich and round but with sufficient freshness to imbue vitality. Already quite charming! Lots of juice and fruit almost distracts from the dry tannins on the end. (JR)
