Score 95/100 · Drink 2021-2050, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jun 2021

Molitor’s fascinating 2017 Pinot Noir Trarbacher Schlossberg *** grows on a steep hill slope with very rocky terroir surrounded by bushes. The newest release is deep, concentrated and fleshy on the coolish and floral, almost Alpine-scented bouquet that is very clear, wild and spicy. Full-bodied, round, fresh and juicy on the elegant, silky-textured and vivacious palate, this is a remarkably refreshing and grippy Pinot with fine, concentrated aromas of wild strawberries, raspberries and cherries as well as black berries. There is no fat on the palate, just athletics, finesse and energetic purity. I admit, I am a great supporter of this terroir (the butterfly Riesling paradise of Jakob Tennstedt begins a few meters forward), but this is a seriously great Pinot. Tasted in May 2021.
