One of the wines of the vintage, the 2013 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Lesquerde Rectificando Invenies (Ri) is comprised of 100% Syrah and raised all in demi-muids. Coming from the decomposed granite soils around the village of Lesquerde, its deep purple color is followed by serious, backward notes of graphite, spicy oak, pepper and crushed rock. Possessing thrilling purity, a multi-dimensional, layered mouthfeel and ripe tannin, it needs 2-3 years of cellaring and will keep through 2028.

100% Syrah on granite. Located in the Lesquerde district, an area in the department where the grapes are last to ripen, the vineyard parcel lies on a gentle, north-facing slope; very infertile, granite, ferrous soil, predominantly gravely on top. This terroir’s characteristics are reminiscent of certain northern Rhône Valley appellations. Ageing lasts around 18 months: the first year in ½ muid (600-litre) barrels of 2 wines then the last six months in concrete tanks to completely polish the tannins, while preserving freshness and smoothness. Smells rather sweet and fresh too. Blackberry aromas! Very clean and fresh. A little drying on the end. Vigorous. (JR)
