Score 89/100 · Drink 2006-2011, Pierre Rovani, Jun 2003

Toasted oak and black fruits can be found in the aromatics of the dark-colored 2000 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Vaucrains. Backward, and revealing outstanding depth as well as concentration, it coats the palate with layers of well-extracted brambleberry and blackberry flavors. As is typical for Ambroise’s Vaucrains, the medium to full-bodied 2000 will require 3-4 years of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2011. Importer: Robert Kacher Selections, Washington, DC; tel. Medium ruby. Nuanced nose combines black fruits, violet, pepper and tarry, smoky oak. Sweeter, suppler and more delicate than the foregoing samples, but a wine of very good rather than outstanding density and complexity. The tannins are fine and hit the palate later.
