The 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonerre 1er Cru is beautifully composed and finely delineated on the nose, a gunflint undercurrent blossoming with aeration; the new oak does become more vocal with aeration, though. The palate delivers a tangy grapefruit and orange zest opening, good depth and vigor and a lightly spiced, peach skin finish. This settles down nicely in the glass and has a promising future. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

One of the stand outs in this range, the 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru is precise and tightly wound, not to mention unbelievably alluring. Crushed rocks, white pepper flowers and citrus peel are some of the many notes that grace this vivid, captivating Chablis from Droin. Finely cut and crystalline, with precision to burn, the 2017 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre is quite simply what Chablis is all about.
The 2017 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre is another cuvée that shows a bit of overt oak influence, revealing aromas of nutmeg, spices, honeycomb and crisp orchard fruit. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny-textured but tight-knit, with chewy structuring extract and supporting barrel phenolics.
