Score 85/100 · Drink 2026-2038, Neal Martin, Mar 2026

The 2022 Filhot has a simple lanolin and dried honey nose that just lacks a bit of precision. The palate is balanced with a viscous entry, but quite simple and certainly missing some tension on the slightly cloying finish. This is unequivocally a subpar Sauternes and, against its peers, it is behind the pack by some distance. Tasted blind at the Southwold tasting in London.

The 2022 Filhot has a straightforward nose that's clean and slightly Germanic in style. The palate is viscous on the entry, with modest weight but missing some complexity toward the finish. It is not a bad Sauternes, though it is lapped by its peers.

Dive into this delicious and luscious sweet wine, clear edges of cloves and saffron, silky texture, there is a kick of lime zest, perhaps just a little heavy, but delivers a ton of pleasure. 33% new oak for ageing.

The 2022 Filhot offers up aromas of lemon, confit citrus, herbs and spring blossom. Moderately weighted and tense, it’s straight with a sweet, heavy mid-palate that segues into an incisive, lively palate. It lacks flesh and vibrancy for a Sauternes. This is a blend of 50% Sémillon, 40% Sauvignon and 10% Muscadelle.
