The certified organic Barale Fratelli 2020 Barolo Castellero glides forward over the palate with medium-plus richness and classic aromas of black fruit, cherry cola and grilled rosemary. You also get hints of exotic clove. It ages in 30-hectoliter oak casks for 30 months, and 3,726 bottles were released.

Barolo. Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Deep, concentrated and alluring red-fruit nose. The elegant, fluid fruit on the palate comes as a surprise considering the rich nose. Fresh and lithe with persistent, coating tannins. (WS)
The 2020 Barolo Castellero is a powerful, savory wine. Dark fruit, menthol, licorice, spice and a host of balsamic notes all run through this dense, virile Barolo. The 2020 is still coming together following its bottling a few months ago, but it offers good potential. I especially admire its energy and complexity. The Castellero is the most expressive of the Barale Barolos at this stage.
