Score 92/100 · Drink 2025-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, May 2025

Pouring a youthful ruby red color, the 2023 Dolcetto D'Alba was fermented with the addition of 60% whole clusters in the fermentation, adding a pleasing lifted spice and refined chalkiness to the texture of the wine. It’s made in a fantastically fresh style reminiscent of high elevation Grenache and boasts notes of cracked pepper spice, mixed red and black raspberry fruit, cooling wet stones, and a floral perfume of wildflowers. The palate is snappy and ripe with an approachable feel, and it offers mouthwatering spice and a clean finish. Drink over the next 4-5 years. Each of the Burlotto wines for this report were tasted at the winery in Verduno with Fabio Burlotto at the end of February, 2025.

The 2023 Dolcetto d'Alba is a gorgeous, quirky wine. Exotic flowers, spice, leather, licorice and cool, blue-toned fruits are all laced together in the glass. The 2023 was done with 60% stems, as is the custom here. The Burlotto Dolcetto remains one of the most distinctive wines in all of Piedmont.
