The mild smoky reduction infuses a sophisticated range of quiet aromas. Lithe and centred, with ripe fruit overtones on a stony, salty core. Lifting notes of thyme and grapefruit, herbal freshness. Elegant spice and stone with the faintest tang of a bit of VA, and an understated yet unrelenting chalky grip. Not sure of the lifespan here, but there is so very much to love. (PS)

The 2020 Doosberg Riesling Trocken GG is radiant, clear and refined on the deep, pure, highly complex and terroir-driven nose that shows fascinating earthy tones of crushed clayish slate, iodine, lemon juice and, well, Riesling berries. Silky, lush and highly elegant on the palate, this is a juicy but refined, vibrantly pure and mineral Doosberg with fine, crunchy tannins and characteristic mineral acidity and crisp phenolic grip. The finish is enormously long and energetic in all its crescendo salinity and mineral purity. Tasted in April 2022 from the tank that was to be bottled the next day.
