The 2020 Riesling is made from four plots with an average vine age of 35 years, running along the mid-slope of the granitic Schlossberg Grand Cru. The nose is full of ripe, expressive orange peel. The palate is dense, concentrated, yet utterly linear with a stony, lemony acidity that cuts through everything. The finish is salty like wet stone, mouth-watering, crystalline and utterly appetizing. (Bone-dry)

The 2020 Riesling Grand Cru Schlossberg is another beautifully pure and refined, terroir-driven Riesling from the Barthelmé family. Grapes were picked in Kirrenbourg, Tiefenthal and Bix, and it opens richer and darker-toned on the nose than the delicate cousin from the Wineck-Schlossberg. Ripe peach and mango aromas intertwined with finely crushed granite notes on the delicately flinty but also generously aromatic bouquet lead to a full-bodied, rich and elegant, very fine but also intense and powerful palate with sustainable structure built by fine phenols and fine acidity caused by a well-weathered granite terroir. All this flows into a long, complex and saline finish that indicates great aging potential of this classic and harmonious, lush and superbly balanced 2020 Schlossberg. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022.
