There are two barrels and two kegs of the 2017 Meursault La Sève du Clos, a stunning wine from very old vines in the lieu-dit En l'Ormeau. Offering up aromas of pear, Meyer lemon, tangerine oil, white flowers and hazelnuts, it's full-bodied, textural and amazingly concentrated, with a deep, layered core, laden with chewy dry extract and concluding with a long, resonant finish. Alluding to the vines' antiquity, Ente describes it as "a diplodocus."

In tank since just before the 2018 harvest and will be bottled in March or April. A selection from En l’Ormeau. Vines more than 120 years old. Average yield under 30 hl/ha and the total quantity keeps reducing. 2016 suffered from frost. Half in barrel and half in demijohns. Beautifully complex nose of citrus, green fruits and herbs. But mineral and stony too. Has everything. More precise and chiselled on the palate, bright but subtle and intense at the same time. Smoky but not reduced. Juicy at the core, delicate and long with intense heart and soul. Seriously long and embryonic and with unforced power. (JH)
