La Morra. Aged for two years in large oak casks of 20 and 40 hl, followed by two years in bottle. Maturing, concentrated ruby with brickstone rim. Notes of dried cherry with a hint of mulch. Lots of finely concentrated cherry fruit with a savoury, tannic yet juicy finish. Still loads of potential. (WS)

The estate’s 2004 Barolo Vigna Rionda is beautifully perfumed, understated and refined, with silky layers of fruit that emerge gracefully from its mid-weight frame. The tannins possess gorgeous silkiness, which contributes in big way to the wine’s sensual, captivating personality. This will be a fascinating wine to follow over the coming years and decades. Roses, spices and flowers of all sorts linger on the impeccable finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2034. Oddero can be hit and miss, but when the wines are on – as they increasingly are – they merit considerable attention. This is a very strong set of new releases from one of Piedmont’s historic properties. Importer: Soilair Selection, New York, NY; tel. (646) 244-4922
