The 2020 Pommard Les Rugiens 1er Cru has a powerful nose. It's a little oaky with just a touch of saddle leather. It leans a little too much towards gaminess. The palate is marked by dry wood tannins, quite austere and structured, with a very stemmy finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens unwinds in the glass to reveal notes of dark berry fruit mingled with licorice, orange rind, warm spices, loamy soil and sapid bass notes. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and concentrated, it's a deep, seamless, sapid wine that's the most muscular and potentially long-lived cuvée in the range.
