The 2013 Il Borgo is soft, open-knit and pleasant. Sweet red cherry, red plum, spice and new leather are all pushed forward, in this soft, mid-weight red from the Folonari family. Although not especially complex, the 2013 is tasty and very nicely balanced.

This is one of two estates owned by Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari. The second is Tenuta di Nozzole. The 2013 Il Borgo opens to a rich, dark garnet appearance with austere fruit flavors. Following a few vigorous swirls of the glass, the wine opens up to soft cherry and blackberry aromas with mellow textural richness. Il Borgo represents a blend of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Some 50,000 bottles are produced.
