From a parcel planted in 1946 comes the 2018 Beaune Les Epenottes, a lovely cuvée that unfurls to reveal aromas of cassis, dark berries, black truffle and peony. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and gourmand, with a layered core of fruit and refined structuring tannins. This is well worth seeking out.

The 2018 Beaune Les Epenotes 1er Cru, which contains around 25% new oak, has a very elegant, well-defined bouquet of pretty red cherry and crushed strawberry aromas that blossom from the glass. The palate is sweet on the entry, with firm tannins framing the ripe red fruit. It cuts away a little too swiftly on the finish, but otherwise this is a very commendable Beaune Epenotes in the making.
