The 2017 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru has a "cool" nose with cold granite mixed with undergrowth, moss-like scents with a touch of menthol. It is very intense on the palate, one of Lamy's spicier 2017s with a tang of ginger and lemon thyme on the finish. Excellent.

The 2017 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru comes from vines planted in 2000. It has a slightly awkward bouquet compared to the Les Frionnes but the palate is fresh and lightly spiced on the entry, good weight in the mouth, maybe needing a little more race to manifest towards the finish but there is that persistent stem ginger note that lingers long after the wine has departed. Racy and full of nervous energy.

The 2017 Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Derrière Chez Edouard Rouge bursts with aromas of dark wild berries, warm spices and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, satiny and pure with good concentration, succulent acids and a precise, mineral finish. Lamy has once again used stems to masterful effect.
