The 2021 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru feels muddled on the nose, missing the delineation of Camus-Brochon's Clos des Arvelets, tomato vine and light earthy red fruit. It becomes a little spirituous with time. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded tannins that lend a soft texture. It is an easygoing Pommard, a bit generic in style although hats off to the purity of fruit that finally comes through on the finish. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Pommard Clos des Epenots 1er Cru does not quite deliver on the nose and I find more complexity on the Beaune Grèves by direct comparison. The palate is well balanced and has a degree of elegance on the entry. It is quite cohesive and slightly bitter towards the finish with a peppery aftertaste. Not bad, but not long-term.
