Score 89/100 · Drink 2024-2040, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Oct 2022

Unwinding in the glass with notes of sweet dark berries, plums, bitter chocolate, vanilla pod and spicy new oak, the 2019 Loudenne is medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with bright acids and powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully chewy finish. This has plenty of potential, and only the somewhat impactful barrel program depresses my score a little.

The 2019 Loudenne Le Château is packed with blackberry jam, chocolate, licorice, dried herbs and cloves. This potent, exuberant Médoc Cru Bourgeois packs quite the punch. It's not exactly subtle, but I doubt that is the point. There is no shortage of exuberance here.

Full bottle 1,323 g. Mid healthy crimson. Very classic smooth claret. Ripe fruit and then quite a bit of tannin. Cool, calm and collected palate entry. I can think of many dining tables that would welcome this moderate sort of wine once those tannins have dissipated. No excess of ripeness… (JR)
