No Racines was made in 2023 due to shatter in the Grenache, so a small portion of the Racines fruit went into this cuvée. Based on 90% Grenache Noir, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Clairette and aged 20 months in 60-hectoliter French oak foudres, the 2023 Gigondas Terrasse Du Diable reveals exotic aromatics of black cherries, mulberries, conifer, olives, pepper, and exotic flowers. It's medium to full-bodied, with a nicely concentrated mouthfeel, ripe yet present tannins, and outstanding length. Drink 2026-2040.

The only red Gigondas from Domaine Les Pallières this year due to the coulure -derived absence of the Racines, the 2023 Gigondas Terrasse du Diable was bottled in May 2025. Blending 95% Grenache with dollops of Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvèdre, it unwinds with ripe red plum, raspberry and leafy tones. Herbal elements add more complexity. Smoothly textured and refined, the medium- to full-bodied 2023 Terrasse du Diable stands shoulder to shoulder with the 2022 I tasted a year ago.
Fragrant orange blossom, dried herbs, forest strawberry, and licorice introduce the 2023 Terrasse du Diable, a seductive and promising red with spot-on balance and ample substance. I can’t wait to taste it once bottled. Readers should note that no Racines was made in 2023.
