(100% grenache blanc): Pale yellow-gold. Orchard and pit fruits on the highly perfumed nose. Fleshy, palate-staining pear, nectarine and candied ginger flavors show a suave blend of richness and vivacity and a hint of smokiness. Finishes with very good length and a velour-like texture, leaving smoke and pit fruit notes behind.

Fashioned from 100% late harvested Grenache Blanc, the 2009 Cotes du Rhone Blanc displays citrus oil, mango and nectarine characteristics in an exotic, ripe, full-bodied style. This naked, natural effort contains little sulphur, no wood (it is aged completely in tank) and a long finish. It is impossible to know how long it will last, but it is certainly impressive. I would opt for drinking it over the next 3-4 years. This is the home estate of Emmanuel Reynaud, who has been producing the wines of Rayas since 1997. A relatively large estate of nearly 100 acres, Domaine des Tours fashions some remarkable value priced reds and whites. Importer: Martine’s Wines, Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-0400
