The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vide-Bourses 1er Cru has a very pretty and alluring bouquet, quite nuanced at first with citrus peel, blood oranges, vanilla and almond. Beautiful delineation—just a soupçon of oak to be subsumed (and it will). The palate is well balanced with nicely pitched acidity that lends tension. Fresh, quite saline and beautifully composed on the finish, this exudes high-quality vines and equally high-quality winemaking. bon vin , one that I underestimated from barrel. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vides Bourses 1er Cru was reduced to just 300 liters this year, one barrel (one year old). For me, this does not quite possess the complexity of the Caillerets on the nose, though it is fresh and focused, a chalky scent emerging with time. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, a pretty Chassagne, with light peach and apricot notes and a spring in its step on the finish. I might broach this earlier than the Caillerets (if you can find it).
Aromas of orange oil, peach, white flowers and buttery pastry introduce the 2021 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Vide Bourse, a medium to full-bodied, ample and textural wine that's layered, seamless and saline, but which can't quite match the cut and tension of the Cailleret this year.
