Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2027, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jun 2016

The 2011 Barolo (with fruit sourced from various vineyard sites and assembled later) is both aromatic and intense. This is a common link that you find across the 2011 vintage with Nebbiolo grape no matter what the desired level of ripeness achieved by the vintner. In this case, the wine shows no jammy, overripe characteristics. Instead, it is well constructed with firm tannins and a thick core of black fruit complexity. This wine made from blended fruit ultimately shows a greater degree of control and management in terms of its ripeness.

The 2011 Barolo is soft, forward and open-knit, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Crushed flowers, tobacco, mint and dried cherries are all laced into the finish. The precocious nature of the warm vintage comes through in the slightly wilted flavors.
