Palish bright red. Aromas of red berries, rose petal and cured olive, plus hints of truffle and oak. Shows a light touch and a restrained sweetness to its silky flavors of dried red berries and flowers. Finishes with dusty, slightly drying tannins and a suggestion of development in spite of its solid acidity. I'm not sure where this can go in the bottle.

Commune of La Morra. Just mid ruby with a watery orange-tinged rim. A little funky and strangely exotic on the nose, as well as oxidative on the palate. (WS)

The 2009 Barolo La Serra is especially big in this vintage. The classic La Serra floral, red fruit and spices notes are there, but all of the aromas and flavors are bold, rich and intense. In this warm vintage, La Serra, a high altitude parcel, ripened particularly well and evenly. The firm La Serra tannins are present, but there is more than enough fruit to provide balance. An intriguing mosaic of sweet floral notes is layered into the finish. I expect the 2009 will enjoy a broad drinking window once the tannins begin to soften in a few years.
