Mid ruby. High toned and haunting perfume. Good attack and confidence though it’s far from ready. Long. (JR)

La Morra. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Unusual, lifted cherry and raspberry nose with chalky hints. Raspberry palate with hints of dried fruit. Mouth-filling aromatics and coating tannins. Quite pretty and accessible. (WS)

This is among Cordero di Montezemolo's standout wines, but I am less enthusiastic about the 2012 Barolo Monfalletto. The bouquet appears dry and streamlined with chalky and leathery tones that blow off quickly enough. The wine feels and tastes a bit older than it should. The appearance is thick and dark, and the wine exhibits a heavy texture in the mouth.

Cordero di Montezemolo's 2012 Barolo Monfalletto is plump, juicy and forward, but is also marked by vegetal streaks. Slightly green notes are out of character and suggest slightly less than ripe fruit and/or green tannins from oak. The 2012 is a solid entry-level Barolo from Cordero di Montezemolo, but not up to the estate's usually higher level of overall quality.
