Score 91/100 · Drink 2019-2026, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Oct 2019

Medium red with an amber rim. The most evolved vintage on the nose to this point in the vertical tasting, offering sweet scents of red berries, dried flowers, tobacco and decadent soil tones, plus a slightly jammy, liqueur-like aspect and some balsamic nuances. At once sweet and savory in the mouth, with plum and cherry fruit flavors complicated by hints of herbs and green pepper and nicely framed by surprisingly sound acidity. Finishes slightly tart, with a firm dusting of tannins and some subtle lingering sweetness. Fully mature but holding on nicely. (13.3% alcohol; 42 hl/h; 3.4 pH; harvested on September 16)
