Black fruits, ripe herbs, chocolate, and spicy oak notes all emerge from the 2021 Château La Patache, a bigger 2021 Pomerol that has ample fruit, fine-grained, polished tannins, terrific overall balance, and outstanding length. It brings more fruit and opulence than most in the vintage and will evolve for 10-12 years if well stored, possibly longer.

The 2021 La Patache has an attractive bouquet scented with black plum, raspberry and truffle—simple but delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, though there is more evidence of fruit on the finish, which also has the salinity to tempt you back. Not bad considering the vintage.

The 2021 La Patache is a very pretty, elegant wine. Crushed flowers, mint, crushed rocks and spice lend notable brightness. This mid-weight, nuanced Pomerol is all class. Bright acids keep the flavors brisk, conferring notable energy and vibrancy throughout. This is an especially floral, mid-weight wine from mostly gravelly soils. Lovely.

A touch of bean puree and tapenade to the smoked currant leaves, citrus and red berries. Linear on the medium-bodied palate with juicy fruit and a lightly chewy finish. Chocolate. Gritty tannins. Drink from 2025.
