Beef and flowers. A bit of a head-bender because it really tastes like a mouthful of rare, smoked beef and then freesias. Tannins like reins and boot straps. And then a black streak of burnt-mint freshness. Distinctive. For people who love gamey Syrah. (TC)

Popping with bright red florals and notes of crushed red berries, the 2021 Syrah is fresh, elegant and focused. Medium-bodied and with 13% alcohol, the palate displays fine-grained tannins with bright, crunchy red fruit flavors before displaying elegance and grace. The wine continues to uncoil, offering seductive, spicy elements with soft notes of turned earth and a delightful savory note. 15,000 bottles were produced after the wine rested for 11 months in 15% new oak barrels.

The 2021 Syrah from Elgin and Stanford is 50% whole bunch pressed with a 28-day skin maceration and aged 11 months in 15% new oak. The perfumed nose is very floral, with wilted rose petals and violets blossoming in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite focused with a sapid, licorice-tinged finish. There's a bit of rusticity here, but in a positive sense of the word. Enjoy.
