Score 90/100 · Drink 2006-2016, Robert Parker, Feb 2006

This estate’s Chateauneuf du Papes tend to be blends of 65% Grenache, 18% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre, and the rest Cinsault and Counoise. The flamboyant 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits huge notes of garrigue and smoky seaweed wrappers intermixed with ripe black cherry and raspberry jam notes. Broad, opulent, and full-bodied with high alcohol and glycerin, this is a seductive, fleshy wine that is stunning at present. Drink it over the next 10 years. Senechaux ages 70% of their Chateauneuf du Pape in tanks or foudres and the rest in small barrels and demi-muids. Importer: ‘59 Imports, Washington, DC; tel. (202) 966-9218

Medium red color. Wild herbs, rose and sweet red berries on the nose. Supple and juicy, with fresh, precise red cherry and plum flavors complemented by garrigue and dried flowers. A wilder, more traditional style that should work well with an array of grilled foods.
