Cask sample. Heady, almost opulent nose. Rich and sweet and flattering. Really alive. Lots of tannin at the moment but wonderfully long and satisfying. (JR)

The 2023 Volnay Les Santenots 1er Cru has a delightful, pure bouquet with brambly red fruit, rose petals and light crushed stone scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins. This is an open-knit and expressive Volnay, quite fleshy with a dash of black pepper towards the finish. The 2023 is not quite as ambitious as the previous vintage, though it will drink well for 12 to 15 years, possibly longer.
