Score 94/100 · Drink 2025-2035, Jeb Dunnuck, Sep 2025

The 2023 Volnay 1er Cru Carelle Sous La Chapelle is completely destemmed and sees this estate's normal 12 months in 20% new barrels. It's a beautiful, spicy, open-knit Volnay that shines for its balance and suppleness. Ripe redcurrants, framboise, rose petals, and earthy, foresty nuances all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied on the palate, with supple, ripe, integrated tannins, good acids, and ripe, present tannins. It's beautifully done and just an absolute joy to drink even today. It should evolve gracefully over the coming decade. Drink 2025-2035.
