Prunotto's generic 1997 Barolo offers an attractive dark ruby/garnet color, low acidity, and soft, fat flavors of smoke-infused cherry fruit, cedar, and toast. Ripe and medium-bodied, it is best drunk over the next 4-5 years. A Leonardo Locascio Selection, Winebow, Hohokus, NJ; tel. (201) 445-0620

Medium red. Spices and exotic notes of pineapple and grapefruit on the nose. Spicy, sweet and dense in the mouth, with near-confectionery flavors of dried cherry and raspberry liqueur. Not complex but smooth and satisfying. Finishes with rather fine tannins.
