The 2013 Barbera d'Alba Prephylloxera opens with gorgeous, enticing scents of smoke, tobacco, crushed flowers, underbrush and blackberry. Deep, intense and vertical in its sense of structure, the 2013 exudes richness and raw power. Readers should plan on giving the 2013 at least another year in bottle. This is a fabulous example of traditionally made, cask-aged Barbera at its best. Sadly, there is just one cask in the cellar to go around.
